A23 27.5/650b Rim Brake Machined Alloy Rim

The Velocity A23 MSW 27.5" Rim Brake Rim in Black/Silver is a dependable, well-regarded aluminium rim built for riders who want reliable stopping power and genuine durability across varied terrain. Whether you ride gravel paths outside Pune, forest trails near Coorg, or mixed-surface roads around Hyderabad, the A23 MSW offers a solid foundation for a capable 27.5" wheel build.

Our Take

Velocity has long been a builder's rim of choice, and the A23 MSW earns its place on Indian bikes for good reason. The MSW (Motor Step Wall) profile adds material where it matters, giving the sidewall extra resilience against the rim brake wear that Indian heat and monsoon grit accelerate. For riders lacing custom wheels on a budget in Chennai or Ahmedabad, this rim punches well above its Rs. 6,100 price point — dependable, true, and worth every rupee.

Sizing for Indian Riders

This rim is a 27.5" (650B) diameter, fitting standard 27.5" mountain and gravel tyres. Indian riders should note that wider tyres — particularly in the 2.0"–2.4" range — suit this rim well for the broken tarmac and loose surfaces common on roads leading to Lonavala or Ooty. Confirm your fork and frame clearance before building, especially on older hardtail frames where tyre clearance can be tight.

Compatibility Notes

Designed specifically for rim brake use — not compatible with disc brake-only frames. Works with standard 27.5" tyres and tubes. Spoke count and drilling should be confirmed at time of purchase to match your hub. The anodised finish — available in black or silver — resists corrosion reasonably well during monsoon riding, though regular cleaning of brake track debris is advised after wet rides.

Pairs Well With

Complete this build with a quality 27.5" hub set, double-butted stainless spokes, and rim brake pads suited to aluminium tracks. A durable 27.5" tyre with good puncture protection rounds out a trail-ready wheelset built for Indian conditions.
